Syria Visiting Options

see the most scenic habitats and ecosystems (undulating shrubland plains, rugged mountains and cliffs, seasonal wetlands and oases) of Palmyrean Al Badia;

visit Al Talila reserve in the vicinity of Palmyra, the first Syrian operational reserve where globally threatened Arabian Oryx and Sand Gazelles were reintroduced, and an interesting eco-museum rich in pictures and information on local wildlife was created;

see bird rarities (e.g., 14 globally and 3 regionally threatened species) within Palmyrean Al Badia (including the relict colony of bald ibis), and within other interesting areas of Syria such as Hamad desert (ca. 100 Km south of Palmyra), Euphrates river (where Iraq Babbler can be watched), Sabkha Al Jabboul (a Ramsar site and largest Syrian wetland), Jebel Shua (a forested protected area in western Syria); a comprehensive Palmyra bird checklist and a birdwatching highlights checklist are available at project web site (under construction);

overnight in traditional tents of Bedouin nomads getting in contact - in the most respectful and less invasive way - with their fascinating culture and traditions (including food);

star watching in the desert at night.
