Profile:
Villa
Philadelphia, Sinemoretz is located in the Strandja National Reserve,
which is one of the most important breeding areas in the country
for Ciconia nigra, raptors such as Neophron percnopterus, Circaetus
gallicus, Aquila pomarina, Aquila chrysaetos, Hieraaetus pennatus
and Bubo bubo, and forest species such as Picus canus, Dendrocopos
medius and Ficedula semitorquata. The mountain is also a major migratory
bottleneck site, where more than 33,000 Ciconia ciconia pass overhead
each autumn. Species of global conservation concern that do not
meet IBA criteria: Phalacrocorax pygmeus (common on passage), Pelecanus
crispus (common on passage), Crex crex (occurs on passage).
Villa Philadelphia
is in the immediate vicinity of two major IBA Protected Landscapes:
Veleka, 1,546 ha; and the Veleka Mouth, 1,511 ha; and a short
drive to a third: Silistar, 773 ha. There are over a dozen more
sites within a 90 kilometer radius of Villa Philadelphia (Atanasovo
Lake; Poda Lagoon; Izvorska Mouth; Ropotamo Alepu lake; Maslen
Nos; Pyassachni Dyuni; Arkoutino; Chengene Skele Cove; Cape Emine
and others.)
Since its conception,
Villa Philadelphia has taken a proactive role in the immediate
area by working with local BirdLife Representatives and authorities
by actively promoting the protection of the area's natural wonders.
We work hard by educating the public about the importance of this
unique biosphere. Our major tours to Bulgaria are led by BirdLife
members whose major purpose is promoting the protection of these
vital breeding grounds for resident and migratory species. We
focus on the following: (1) Bulgarian Black Sea Coast: From Romania
to Turkey (Spring and Autumn); (2) Central Balkan Range (Early
Spring Raptor Migrations), (3) Branta Ruficollis' (Winter) as
well as (4) Strandja Mountains (Year round)
Located
in the Bulgarian Black Sea town of Sinemoretz, Villa Philadelphia
is a cozy six-room inn which offers exclusive service in
a charming setting and an unparalleled chance to relax away
from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The
guestrooms are elegant and comfortable. Each room comes
with a private bathroom, its own deck with panoramic view
of the sea (unrivaled in Sinemoretz), and the use of a grassy
inner courtyard. Breakfast is included in the price. Arrangements
for full board (lunch and/or dinner) can be made in our
cafe.
The
area boasts of several superb beaches, accessible wooded
mountains, rivers, nature reserves, and the village of Sinemoretz
with restaurants, grocery stores and coffee shops.
There
are opportunities for swimming, hiking, boat rides on the
Veleka River, fishing in the sea or rivers, nature walks,
bird-watching, botanical and ethnographic tours. Upon request,
Villa Philadelphia will make arrangements for these and
other activities. |

Neophron
Tours is the tourist company of the Bulgarian Society for
the Protection of Birds. We offer a great variety of birding, natural
history, wild flowers, butterfly and dragonfly tours. We practice
and promote responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the
environment and provides support for bird conservation in Bulgaria.
With the presence
of about 400 bird species recorded in the country, Bulgaria has
indeed something to offer birders during all seasons. Its central
location on the Balkan Peninsula, its highly diverse
landscape and vegetation, the Mediterranean influence in the southern
part of the country, the alpine belt in the high mountains and
the numerous riverside and coastal wetlands contribute to the
variety of birdlife. Besides, two of the main migratory flyways
for migrating birds in Eastern Europe – the Via Pontica
and the Via Aristotelis – cross the country. The huge flocks
of migrating Pelicans, Storks and raptors, flying right over your
head, is an impressive and memorable sight. Traveling through
the country in spring one can enjoy the colorful Bee-eaters, Red-backed
Shrikes, Golden Orioles, Black-headed Buntings and the Ortolan
Buntings nearly at every step.
