As
a Gambian, I know the country and its birdlife intimately, and
having spent ten years guiding enthusiasts and newcomers throughout
the Gambia region, I would welcome the chance to show you the
whole spectrum of species that this area has to offer.
Whether you are satisfied with the coastal zone
or would like to experience the up-river up-country areas, I can
arrange transport and accomodation to suit your interests. It
is my desire to give us the very best chance of not only ticking
what you are looking for but also enjoying some really good viewing
and a feel for the areas that we visit!!!
Let
me take care of your birding holiday!

Modou
Colley is based at the Senegambia Hotel
in the Kololi coastal area about 30 kilometres from Banjul.
For the past seven
years he has been training and working as a bird guide in the
Gambia and is the secretary of WABSA (West African Bird Study
Association).
Modou leads small
groups to all the local sites on a daily basis and therefore has
a constant awareness of where the more difficult birds can be
found. He is familiar with the calls of over 200 species and is
extremely sharp-eyed, having grown up in the Faraba Banta area
which is renowned for its birds of prey. Modou is also happy to
go further afield and will arrange a vehicle and driver according
to the needs of the passengers and type of journey.

user Recommendation:
“'We
cannot recommend Modou too highly. He is an expert on the
local sites, a wizard at birdcalls and patient with
photographers! All our trips with him were on time and delivered
the goods.
His good humour and unfailing consideration for all members
of the party were outstanding.”

Birding
with Junkung (JJ) is always a delightful experience because of
my extensive experience in the field. I come from the tourist
village of Tendaba which is 150km to the east of Banjul. Being
brought up in such a community, I have always been engaged in
such activities. On completion of my education I went straight
to the Department of Parks and Wildlife Management where I trained
professionally for eight years. Since that time I have been engaged
in escorting visitors who wish to enjoy the beauty of nature in
my country.
An excursion with
JJ will always be a memorable experience because of the depth
of knowledge which I bring to such outings. Whether we are visiting
the local beauty spots of Abuko or Tangi Beach or travelling further
afield to Sindola or Tendaba, you will be delighted with the magic
I can bring to these occasions. If required I will hire suitable
transport for these trips and arrange accommodation for overnight
stays.
If at all possible
try to contact me before your visit so that preliminary arrangements
can be made before your arrival.

user recommendation:
"We had an excellent day
out with Tijan. His birding skills are exceptional, particularly
his knowledge of calls. Tijan has his own transport which he uses
for local trips; a small van that would comfortably seat six. He
met us on our arrival at the Gambia outside our hotel and confirmed
arrangements for our day out. We found Tijan good company and extremely
helpful and gave excellent value for money."
