DORDOGNE ~ David Simpson

I am a birdwatchng and wildlife guide and have been living and working in Dordogne, SW France for the last ten years. Previously I worked for 20 years in UK as a nature reserve warden for NCC etc. I also work as a leader for Travelling Naturalist holidays.

My area covers the département of the Dordogne and adjacent areas of neighbouring départements. Habitats include forest, meadows, heath, grasslands, dry arable farmland, mixed farmland, marshes, reservoirs, cliffs and rivers.

Profile:

Croatia is a beautiful country with diverse landscapes, from soothing to dramatic, on a relatively small area. Croatia’s natural beauties would, on their own, be ample reason for a visit – but in addition Croatia is an emerging birding destination due to its ornithological significance.

Croatian avifauna consists of 387 bird species, of which 233 species are nesters; 178 species are classed as threatened on the national level, 69 on the European level and 21 on the global level. Croatia as a tourist destination is well known for its coastal summer holiday resorts, with many popular attractions such as visits to historical and cultural sites, boating,
diving or just relaxing, but many of these resorts are also close to a number of excellent birdwatching areas.

Our programs include weekly birdwatching tours in the Croatian coastal area during spring and autumn migrations, weekend birding breaks, targeted birdwatching tours, as well as other birdwatching itineraries tailored to your exact needs and wants, that are available on request.

Visit our website, for it contains many useful birdwatching information about Croatia, including the complete bird check list.
