DORDOGNE ~ David Simpson

I am a birdwatchng and wildlife guide and have been living and working in Dordogne, SW France for the last ten years. Previously I worked for 20 years in UK as a nature reserve warden for NCC etc. I also work as a leader for Travelling Naturalist holidays.

My area covers the département of the Dordogne and adjacent areas of neighbouring départements. Habitats include forest, meadows, heath, grasslands, dry arable farmland, mixed farmland, marshes, reservoirs, cliffs and rivers.

I can do beginners general trips for a variety of habiats and bird species or take you to sites for sought-after birds such as Eagle Owl, Short-toed Eagle, Scop's Owl, Stone Curlew, Tawny Pipit, Black and Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Alpine Swift, Subalpine Warbler, Ortolan Bunting, harriers and shrikes (plus Cranes, Wallcreeper, Alpine Accentor winter only).

I also undertake trips to key orchid and butterfly sites. Birdguides have published my book 'Birding Dordogne' and I have written Dordogne articles for British Wildlife, Butterfly and Birdwatching magazines. Trip prices from 25 euros each per day including transport (minimum two people). We live next door to our three bedroom holiday cottage near Bergerac - Owners Direct

Richard is an experienced English freelance birding guide based in the French Pyrenees, where he has lived for thirteen years. He leads tours in the Western Pyrenees, which can be adapted from one day to one week depending on the client’s requirements.

Richard has travelled across much of the world and has visited over eighty countries to date. He has led many tours to western and central Africa including sixteen tours to Senegal, a country he knows very well.

He also has a good knowledge of Ghana and, more recently, Malawi, where he has led several tours. Another country he is currently working in is Guyana.

I have been a keen bird-watcher and field botanist for 35 years.

My main areas of birding experience are Scotland and Southern England, Balearic Islands, Corsica, Britanny, Eastern France, Camargue, NE Spain, Eastern Andalucia, Western Greece, Corfu, Thassos, Kos, Cyprus, New Zealand (North Island), Canada (Southern Ontario), USA (Nebraska) and Kenya (Nairobi area).

I specialise in unhurried bird-watching without excessive travelling, suited to a 50+ age group. All my guided walks include the identification of flora and insect species and the encouragement of photography at every stage.
