DORDOGNE ~ David Simpson

I am a birdwatchng and wildlife guide and have been living and working in Dordogne, SW France for the last ten years. Previously I worked for 20 years in UK as a nature reserve warden for NCC etc. I also work as a leader for Travelling Naturalist holidays.

My area covers the département of the Dordogne and adjacent areas of neighbouring départements. Habitats include forest, meadows, heath, grasslands, dry arable farmland, mixed farmland, marshes, reservoirs, cliffs and rivers.

Profile:

Madeira Wind Birds is an eco-tourism company that embraces the principles of sustainable tourism, contributing to the conservation and interpretation of the natural heritage of Madeira's Archipelago. Our services are specialized in the observation of endemic and indigenous species of birds and plants.

Madeira Island is called the "Seabirds treasure" because here you can see several species such as the Cory's Shearwater, Little Shearwater, Madeira Storm Petrel, Bulwer's Petrel and especially the endangered Zino's Petrel that only breeds in the Madeira Island mountains.

Join us and you can take a good look to the endemic Long-toed Pigeon, Madeira Firecrest and Madeira Chaffinch and do a night expedition to hear the Zino's Petrel calls. Several other species restricted to Madeira and Canaries can be found such as the Berthelot's Pipit, Canary and the Plain Swift.

The Madeira Island presents a primitive flora that includes 165 endemic species. The relic of the this flora is the Laurel Forest that received in 1999 the award of World Natural Heritage of UNESCO.

Also available to Guide in: Madeira only.
