I am a birdwatchng and wildlife guide and have been living and working in Dordogne, SW France for the last ten years. Previously I worked for 20 years in UK as a nature reserve warden for NCC etc. I also work as a leader for Travelling Naturalist holidays.

My area covers the département of the Dordogne and adjacent areas of neighbouring départements. Habitats include forest, meadows, heath, grasslands, dry arable farmland, mixed farmland, marshes, reservoirs, cliffs and rivers.

Profile:

Kuen-Dar worked for several wild bird societies in Taiwan before the end of 2005. I worked for the Wild Bird Society of Taipei (WBST) from May, 1997. Before then I was a volunteer of Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society (KWBS), attended training course in how to guide the Bird-watching group in the KWBS. I am serving as a member of the banding group of KWBS. In WBST, my major job is bird conservation and research. Since then I have had chances to be a consultant for the foreign birders to arrange their birding trip in Taiwan. I was appointed as the Secretary General of Wild Bird Society of Changhua in Jan., 2001. Changhua is my hometown and it is famous as the site of the migration of the Grey-faced Buzzard in spring. My last conservation NGO work was the Secretary General of the Wild Bird Federation Taiwan (which has now changed name to the Chinese Wild Bird Federation, CWBF). It is serving the collection of all Taiwan wild bird societies, and also an international platform as a national partner of BirdLife International. Working in these wild bird societies, I have met so many friends, such as local birders in Taiwan and international birders from overseas.

I have been qualified as a licensed tour guide and tour leader since 2006. Since then, I have guided overseas birders when birding in Taiwan on more than 20 occasions. These birders have included visitors from the UK, USA, Greece, Japan, Singapore and mainland China, etc. Guided trips have included comprehensive birding trips spending over one week in Taiwan and covering most of the major sites, or just brief stays, of a few hours or a day during stop-overs during their business trips.

Before undertaking a birding trip with clients, I discuss trip objectives and any target species and develop a suitable itinerary to ensure expectations are met and a fruitful birding trip is enjoyed. Transportation in Taiwan is very convenient and you may choose a small van driven by me, your bird guide, or to hire a 20-seat bus if you have a larger party. As the play back is increasingly difficult for many wild birds in Taiwan, I prefer to use a network of local birders to help increase the chances of finding target species, rather than using play back.

There are some other professional bird guides in Asia, such as mainland China and Japan etc in my connection network, some useful international advice and information could be provided through the network.
